Dr. Bilal Mannan is an internal medicine specialist (internist) who is board-certified and dedicated to providing primary care to adult patients. With a particular expertise in obesity medicine, Dr. Mannan's passion lies in the areas of nutrition and metabolic health.
Dr. Mannan embarked on his journey in the medical field at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he immersed himself in pre-medical sciences and gained valuable experience in an oncology laboratory at the School of Medicine. He later transferred to St. George's University to complete his MD, focusing on the pre-medical curriculum. Following this, he underwent an internship at SUNY Buffalo and successfully completed his residency at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ Health System.
During his residency, Dr. Mannan acquired proficiency in Critical Care Ultrasonography, honing his skills in bedside ultrasound and related procedures. After graduating from his residency, Dr. Mannan embarked on a career as a teaching hospitalist. He first served at the Northwell Health System in New York and then transitioned to the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
During his time as an acute care physician, Dr. Mannan witnessed the direct impact of chronic diseases and the consequences of poor metabolic health. Recognizing the inadequacy of nutrition and preventive medicine training in the current medical school curriculum, he pursued specialization in obesity medicine and received accreditation from the Society of Metabolic Health.
In 2019, Dr. Mannan and his wife, Dr. Malik, established Avicenna Direct Care, a Direct Primary Care practice that prioritizes preventive medicine through lifestyle modification and intervention. Together, they aim to empower patients to take control of their health through personalized care and holistic approaches.
